(Greensboro, N.C.) Feb. 12, 2014 – Maria Barker, director of operations for Phillips Management Group, has been named president of the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association (PTAA) for 2014. PTAA, the leading multifamily housing organization in the region, provides leadership, advocacy, education and networking to its 100 owner/operator members and 145 vendor partners. PTAA serves 340 apartment communities with more than 53,500 housing units.
“I have been involved with PTAA and other industry trade organizations for many years, and am excited to step into this new role as president,” said Barker. “The PTAA does a fantastic job of representing apartment community owners throughout the region. This position will allow me to represent and speak for my peers on a local, statewide and national level, and I am looking forward to that opportunity.”
Barker will provide guidance for the board of directors and the association, and will serve as PTAA’s ambassador with other state and national apartment associations. She will also lead PTAA as it revises its strategic plan and continues its communications and social media efforts.
“She [Barker] is going to be great for the association, and I’m excited to be able to work with her,” said Jon Lowder, PTAA executive director. “She’s had a long, distinguished career in the industry, and I think she’ll bring a fresh perspective to the association.”
Barker has held numerous senior management positions throughout her career. Before joining Phillips Management Group in 2009, she worked as a national speaker, trainer and industry consultant. She also worked as the director of education at Steven D. Bell & Company. In 2012, Barker won the PTAA Diamond Award for Owner Member Volunteer of the Year.
